"the more．．．the more．．．"与"．．．more and more．．．"虽然同是形容词的比较级，是两个有不同含义的结构。"the more．．．the more．．．"这一结构相当于汉语中的"越……越……"，表示两个过程按比例同时递增。这种句型的前一个the more．．．结构为从属分句，后一个the more．．．结构为主句；通常是从句在前，主句在后。例如：
